I've been made redundant
generic brand of yasmin There’s actually a DVD of Dave Van Ronk teaching you how to play some of his songs. And I studied that to no end and just learned it. But let me tell you this crazy, serendipitous story. Before that audition for the Coens I was doing this tiny little movie [the 2012 indie "Revenge for Jolly"] and there was this guy playing an extra at the bar, an older gentleman. Between takes, he would pick up a guitar and do this Travis Picking, and he was just an incredible, incredible player. So I go over to him and I say, “Hey, man, you’re great. I’m auditioning for this movie loosely based on Dave Van Ronk???do you know who that is?” And he said, “Yeah, I played with Dave.” I said, “Wait. Are you serious?” And he was like, “Yeah.” I said, “Where do you live?” And he says, “On MacDougal Street, above the old Gaslight” [a legendary Greenwich Village caf??]. I was like, “How long have you been living there?” And he says, “Since the 1970s???why don’t you come over? I’ll give you guitar lessons.” His name is Erik Frandsen. He totally prepped me for the whole thing. By the end of it, he told me he can see Dave giving me the thumbs up.
